(R70, Phaidon)
As a Capetonian, I expected great things when I saw this little pink book. It starts off with essential information and an introduction to Cape Town, then divides into sections, giving you all the information you need to make a stay in the Mother City a memorable one. The emphasis is on design and architecture and all the city’s most beautiful examples are included.
The mark of a good guidebook is when someone who lives in the city picks it up and finds his/her favourite spots as well as a few new ones to explore – and this book gets it right. It hits on all the must-sees, but also suggests tucked-away spots, which give Cape Town her wonderful eclectic, arty and chilled-out vibe.
